Heidelberg

On our way to Legoland, we stopped at Heidelberg.  Heidelberg is considered to be founded in 1196.  On the Neckar River it is known for it's University (founded in 1386), the Protestant Reformation and being home to the German Romantic movement with many philosophers, composers and poets having used it for inspiration.
Old Bridge from 1786 - part of medieval Heidelberg's fortifications.

Schloss (Castle) built in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries.

Across the Neckar River - above the town is known as Philosopher's Path, where many would wander.
We rode the funicular up to the castle and walked around the grounds.
Elisbethentor - built over night in the early 1600s as a birthday gift

Some of the castle garden.

Happy Kaleb:)

Hard to capture in photo...a piece of the tower fell over but didn't completely fall down

Some of the bricks are diagonal to the others due to the wall separating from the rest of the tower.

Pine tree growing on the castle ruins.
